A Little Taster of the Race Course...Mind the Cows!

On Your Marks...

The Participants and Spectators

You'll be running on trails alongside Ugandan and East African nationals in the home of distance running, where the passion will astound you. Local children will come streaming out of their homes and schools to wave, clap and run alongside you!

In 2016 we had almost 200 participants and we've capped the 2017 race at 300 to retain the exciting atmosphere and personal experience.

Last year our international runners came from all over the world, with all ages and abilities it made for a brilliant and lively mix of people, all with the same love of adventure, all spurring each other on! Full marathon times varied from sub 3 hours to sub 8. This is a race for everybody and we would love you to be part of it.

The 10k, Half and Full Marathon Courses

Words almost fail us here. On each of the courses you'll run through villages and trading centres, banana plantations, and beautiful open countryside. If you choose to run 10k you'll get to run through the very lively Fort Portal town. If you choose to run the half or full marathon you'll find yourself running in the most spectacular surroundings you can imagine, overlooking the Great Rift Valley.

Underfoot you'll be plodding along hard packed dirt trails, an absolute dream for runners' joints while ahead of you stand the UNESCO Rwenzori Mountains - the highest mountain range in Africa. The Rift Valley opens wide and reaches for miles, eventually disappearing from view in a haze that melts into the vast Lake Albert on a clear day.

Whether you're new to this running malarky or a trail running extraordinaire, this course will absolutely delight you. It will also challenge you; it's hilly, at an altitude of around 1500m and likely to be warmer than you're used to. But rest assured this will be an experience of a lifetime and when you cross the finish line (which is on a very welcome downward slope) you will be doing it with a huge smile on your face!

Medical Care

We have a fantastic group of medics from the UK coming to support us on race day and look after you. We worked with them for the 2016 event and have absolute faith you're in the safest and friendliest of hands.

The team are volunteering their time and expertise to stay with us and we can't thank Exile Medics enough for being part of the #RiftMaz team!

Food & Drink

Race day will begin with breakfast available early so you'll be set for the run.

During the race there will be water stations along the course as well as bananas for fuel. Full marathon runners can also leave pre-made-up rehydration drinks at a designated point.

After the race there's an enormous BBQ buffet lunch at the finish line for you to enjoy with all the runners (locals, expats and the other internationals) while you celebrate.
